SUMMARY:Fife Queer Zine Fest
DESCRIPTION:Fife Queer Zine Fest is a new celebration of LGBTQ+ creative activity in Fife. Featuring an artists’ market alongside talks\, workshops\, music and spoken word\, it’s a cosy celebration of proud lives and subversive ideas.\n\n11-6pm\, Saturday 21st February Forgan Arts Centre Free entry \nA zine is a wee magazine (that’s where the name comes from!) that anyone can make and share. A zine can be as simple as a folded sheet of paper or as elaborate as a glossy journal\, using writing or photography or collage or drawing or anything else the zine-maker enjoys. For decades\, zines have been part of LGBTQ+ and feminist culture\, featuring at punk nights and community gardens\, protests and collective events. A zine fest is a grassroots events where independent writers and artists can come together to swap and share their publications and learn from each other. Let’s make one happen in Fife! \nWe’ll be announcing the full programme of stallholders and events in 2026. You can expect chances to get your hands on creative activities\, hear from brilliant artists\, and browse stalls from zine-makers and community groups. \nIf you’re a LGBTQ+ artist from Fife and you’d be interested in a stall at our zine fair\, we’d love to hear from you. Stalls will be free to hold\, but our space is quite limited\, so priority will be given to artists working in zines and small-scale print culture\, and we can’t provide space to commercial businesses. A good rule of thumb is\, if your artistic work is priced cheaply and you’re open to swapping it for someone else’s work\, a zine fair is right for you! SUMMARY:DJCAD Masters Show - MRes Research Showcase
DESCRIPTION:A new event for Masters Show 2025\, hear from two of our graduating MRes (Masters by Research) students about their very different research projects.  \nRiver Paterson (MRes Design) will be discussing the findings of her paper regarding queer experience in Scotland and experiences of gender discrimination and with transphobic rhetoric faced in Scotland\, looking at how social systems that produce oppressive norms and conditions are maintained in a given culture. Their presentation will share the contextual research\, the research process and the findings of the paper.  \nNeuroscientist Amanda Taylor (MRes Fine Art) has spent years studying the brain’s stress axis\, exploring neurons at a singular level. While stress is often associated with intense neuronal activity\, her work reflects on their grace and serenity as much as their power. Inspired by Santiago Ramón y Cajal—the “godfather of neuroscience”—and his intricate pen-and-ink drawings\, she reimagines neurons not as agents of stress\, but as elegant\, tranquil structures revealed in striking modern molecular imagery.  \n After the session – introduced by Professor Anita Taylor – there will be the opportunity to ask questions\, as well as meet staff from the school’s recruitment team.
