SUMMARY:Porcelain Jewellery: Storytelling in Clay
DESCRIPTION:Saturday 26 September\, 10am–4pm\nJoin visual artist and jewellery maker Beth Wham for a creative day exploring storytelling through the delicate medium of porcelain. \nAs we approach the autumn equinox\, a time of balance and transition\, we’ll take inspiration from the gardens and the changing season\, slowing down to notice the colours\, textures and quiet details that often go unseen. Through sketching\, observation and clay work\, you’ll explore how personal symbols\, natural forms and treasured memories can be transformed into meaningful\, wearable pieces. \nThroughout the day\, you’ll learn techniques for working with porcelain as you design and create a collection of jewellery components\, including charms\, pendants and earrings. Inspired by leaves\, flowers\, shells and other seasonal treasures\, you’ll be encouraged to develop your own visual language\, creating jewellery that reflects your connection to nature and the stories you wish to carry with you. \nAfter the workshop\, your porcelain pieces will be carefully fired and finished before being assembled with jewellery findings and posted back to you\, ready to wear or gift. \nSuitable for all levels of experience. \nAbout the Tutor \nBeth Wham is a visual artist and jewellery maker whose work is inspired by magical storytelling\, underwater textures and ancient craftsmanship. Her practice explores how storytelling and symbolism can be expressed through porcelain\, creating pieces that hold both beauty and meaning. Beth’s workshops offer a welcoming space to slow down\, embrace seasonal rhythms and connect creatively through making.

SUMMARY:Icelandic Fleece Making
DESCRIPTION:Saturday 14 November\, 12.30-4.30pm\nOn this satisfying one day workshop\, Trish OMeara of Wormit Woolies will lead you through the ancient craft of wet felting to create your very own one-of-a-kind felted fleece rug from the fleece of a living sheep Icelandic Sheep.  Icelandic fleeces are particularly luxurious with long soft locks of varying colours and make gorgeous rugs/throws.  Iceland sheep are a hardy breed that display more variety of colour and pattern in their fleece than most other breeds. \nWet felting is the oldest form of textile making and has been recognised as a heritage craft in the UK since the 1100’s. It has a rich history in Scotland with something known as ‘Waulking’. Waulking\, also known as fulling\, is a traditional Scottish process of soaking the fabric in water\, followed by rhythmic beating and kneading\, typically accompanied by singing Gaelic songs. This process makes the felted fabric denser and more durable. \nThis is a practical workshop but you’ll also get loads of theory along the way. Come prepared for an upper body workout\, wear comfortable clothes and appropriate footwear as felting can be physically demanding with part of the process taking place outside. You will be provided with a plastic apron along with everything else needed to create your very own felted fleece rug. \n\nWhat to bring\nAll materials are included\, but participants will be required to bring an old towel and wear comfortable clothes and shoes. If you have any questions about accessibility please email programme@forganartscentre.co.uk. \nAbout the tutor\nTrish O’Meara of Wormit Woolies is a local fibre artist. Working mainly with sheep fleece\, Trish sources her materials sustainably and shares her knowledge on all things felt. Trish offers weekly classes as well as weekend workshops on individual projects in Fife and at Forgan Arts Centre.
