Visible Mending Workshop with Rhona Jack

Saturday 21 Feb, 1pm-4pm

Join us for a session of visible mending with textile artist Rhona Jack.

Learn how to repair moth eaten or worn-out clothes with darning and sashiko stitching. We’ll focus on repairing holes while also strengthening the surrounding cloth and creating visible repairs that celebrate the history of the garment.

Please bring along an item of clothing that you wish to repair, this could be an old knitted jumper, a holey pair of socks, torn jeans or a well-worn jacket. You’ll be advised by Rhona on the best technique for repairing each garment and provided with the materials to do so. No experience required, just an interest in slow making and a desire to learn.

About the Tutor Rhona Jack is an artist based in Dundee, whose practice centres around textile art and sculpture, creating large sculptural installations and small, delicate textile pieces. Using second-hand items as a material, she considers the personal histories that we attach to clothes and household objects. Her ideas are formed through the slow and meditative processes of craft – sewing, weaving, knitting and mending – and centre around tactile interactions with everyday objects.
