Volk Gallery, a non-institutional arts venue consisting of a repurposed vending machine, is proud to present ‘T’, a collaboration between designers Jamie Stein (graphic and product designer) and Connor Finlayson (service and interaction designer). Inspired by the humble act of sharing a cuppa, 50 ‘T’ bags will act as a medium for queer storytelling, design intervention, and shared experience. Working together at the intersection of art and design, Jamie and Connor will explore how objects, flavours, and stories can create space for conversation and care, centred around queer voices often unheard, unnoticed, or unspoken in public life. Through the wonders of tea and type, they craft gentle prompts for conversation, or small invitations to sit with difference and get a taste of someone else’s world. Their aim is to create an experience that is both intimate and shared, familiar, and slightly strange.
T embraces the mechanical, surprising, and public nature of Volk Gallery. Picture grabbing a cuppa with someone you don’t yet know and tasting something a little different from what you expect. Dispensed within Dundee’s Central Library, a space for stories, learning, and community, each piece offers a one-off moment of encounter: part artefact, part story, part flavour. The gallery will quietly distribute fragments of lived experience throughout Dundee Month of Design.
