Holly McAfee has been designing and making jewellery in Dundee since graduating from Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art & Design in 2010, and is now based at Double Door Studios. Finding a wealth of natural inspiration in and around Dundee is the basis for each collection of work Holly produces. Holly’s latest collection, 'Verdant' comprises stylised petals and leaves arranged in contemporary formations. The idea for the collection was initially inspired by an overgrown rosemary plant in a Dundee allotment, which led to looking at petal and leaf shapes in various herbs and flowers. When designing, particular attention is given to the subtle contrast of textures and each piece features varying polished and delicately textured areas. Also inspired by ethical practice, and in line with vegan principles, no animal products are used in the creation or embellishment of Holly’s work. Wherever possible, Holly uses recycled metals for any work she produces.
